Trade magazine Lebensmittel Praxis honors the best German markets.
Essen, April 17, 2024: Elli-Markt in Delbrück, Edeka Wilger from Borken, Rewe-Center Egelsbach and Edeka-Center Cramer from Langenhagen are the Supermarkets of the Year 2024. On Wednesday evening (April 17, 2024), a top-class jury of experts named these four stores the best in German food retail. The winners impressed with their creativity and innovative ideas, quality awareness and customer focus. In the end, these strengths are also reflected in impressive sales figures.
The 'Employee of the Year' in food retail was also chosen. This year's special prizes went to Joana Deck, Edeka Rees in Malterdingen (Baden-Württemberg), Michaela Haberhauer, Edeka Kaltschmid in Grassau (Bavaria) and Johannes Lohmaier, Rewe Markt in Zolling (Bavaria).
'The supermarket is increasingly becoming a world of experience for customers. In the end, the store that offers the best quality, the best service and the best prices will come out on top. This is only possible with professionally qualified and highly motivated employees. The winners of the 'Supermarket of the Year' and 'Employee of the Year' competitions prove this time and time again. We can all learn from them,' says Dr. Ludger Schulze Pals, Managing Director of Lebensmittel Praxis Verlag, highlighting the benefits of the competition.
The Supermarket of the Year is awarded in four categories: chain stores with up to 3,000 square meters of retail space, chain stores with over 3,000 square meters of retail space, independent stores with up to 2,000 square meters of retail space and independent stores with over 2,000 square meters of retail space. The jury consists of experts and high-ranking managers from the food industry as well as top decision-makers from the largest German retail companies. Three stores are nominated for the final selection in each category. The pre-selection is made by the editors of Lebensmittel Praxis. To this end, it examines all incoming applications in detail and incognito. At the same time, an independent market research institute conducts an extensive consumer survey on the markets in question. The research and analysis results form the basis for the jury's decision.
