In just a few days, on 20 June 2026, the annual “BIG Challenge action day” will take place at Hof Biedemann in Kevelaer-Winnekendonk. The farm is the start and finish point for cyclists, runners and hikers who use their sporting efforts to raise donations for the fight against cancer. Landwirtschaftsverlag Münster is one of the main partners of the campaign with the brand “top agrar” (BIG Challenge - rl-Sponsors).
The host and initiator of the action day is the farmers' association “BIG Challenge: Active Against Cancer.” The sponsorship and donation funds raised go to selected research projects of Deutsche Krebshilfe e.V. Since 2014, more than 2,200 sports enthusiasts from all over Germany have raised a total of more than two million euros for cancer aid.
“BIG Challenge combines sporting commitment with solidarity. The fact that this initiative was founded by farmers and has its roots in rural areas shows how strongly responsibility and solidarity are lived there,” says Silke Gorißen, North Rhine-Westphalia's Minister of Agriculture and patron of the action day, describing the significance of the event.
“We also feel solidarity and responsibility. On the one hand, our company also has employees who themselves or whose relatives are affected by cancer. With our commitment, we show them that they are not alone in the fight against the disease. On the other hand, we want to support the exemplary commitment of rural women and farmers with our contribution,” explain Malte Schwerdtfeger and Dr. Ludger Schulze Pals, managing directors of Landwirtschaftsverlag Münster, on why the company is providing financial support.
Currently, just under 300 cyclists, runners and hikers have registered. And the donation total is already approaching the €200,000 mark again. Anyone who still wants to take part can register until 15 June. But for those who are not taking part in sports, there will also be a varied program at Hof Biedemann on 20 June (BIG Challenge - schedule).
